Restorative Practice Questionnaires
In the last quarter of 2005 the Evaluation Team sampled staff and pupil attitudes on relevant issues using two questionnaires designed specifically for the pilot project.
With both the staff and pupil
questionnaires, it was intended to use the data gathered to establish a
baseline for further work in each school, and also to triangulate with the
qualitative data gathered through observation, face-to-face interviews and
focus group meetings.
The aim of the pupil questionnaire was to
survey pupil attitudes to school. We were interested in how pupils felt
about the school ethos, academic expectations, friendships, bullying,
punishment and support in times of difficulty.
Our own contact with pupils
in the 18 schools, and the views of staff in these schools suggested that
pupils would not be familiar with the term ‘restorative practices’ per se
and so there was no specific question about this. The same questionnaire was used with pupils in each
of the primary and secondary schools as well as in the special school.
Sampling
With the prior agreement of the three local authorities, each of the 18
schools involved in the evaluation school was contacted in June 2005 and
the pupil questionnaire sent out in August 2005. The responses will
be analysed in the first half on 2006.
