'Responding to Angry Pupils' on-line CPD
A downloadable CPD item, based on outcomes from the Trojan Project – this item encourages staff to explore responses to pupils' temper loss.
The Trojan Project has been funded by the Scottish Executive to gain insight into children and young people’s lives in order to inform policy-making, in particular those who the mainstream has struggled to include.
The ideas and information in this CPD item have been inspired by some of the young people’s responses to the question of temper loss in schools. It presents an opportunity for teachers to look at and reflect on the honest and sometimes surprising opinions of young people on an issue that can cause real stress for school staff.
This CPD item allows staff to explore the reasons for pupils losing their tempers and to consider what responses need to be in place to address this issue. It contains four activities which will be best tackled in small groups, although some may lend themselves to larger group discussions.
The activities should be able to be completed in one to one and a half hours. They should be seen as a starting point for identifying possible changes in staff or school approaches or as a focus point for reviewing existing responses.
The CPD item can be downloaded via the link on the right of this page.
